Pranamya shirasa devam gauri putram vinayakam,

Bhaktaivasam smaret nityam ayuh-kama-arth-siddhaye.

Prathamam vakratundam cha ekadantam dvitiyakam,

Tritiyam krishna-pingaksham gajavaktram chaturthakam.

Lambodaram panchamam cha shashtam vikatam eva cha,

Saptamam vighnarajam cha dhumravarnam tathashtakam.

Navamam bhalachandram cha dashamam tu vinayakam,

Ekadasham ganapatim dvadasham tu gajananam.

Dvadashaitani namani tri-sandhyam yah pathennarah,

Na cha vighna-bhayam tasya sarva-siddhi-karam param.

Vidyarthi labhate vidyam dhanarthi labhate dhanam,

Putrarthi labhate putran moksharthi labhate gatim.

Japet ganapati-stotram shad-masaih phalam labhet,

Samvatsarena siddhim cha labhate natra samshayah.

Ashtabhyo brahmaneBhyashcha likhitva yah samarpayet,

Tasya vidya bhavet sarva ganeshasya prasadatah.

Meaning of Each Line

Verse 1

• Pranamya shirasa devam gauri putram vinayakam: Bowing my head with reverence to the divine Lord Vinayaka, the beloved son of Goddess Gauri (Parvati).

• Bhaktaivasam smaret nityam ayuh-kama-arth-siddhaye: Remembering Him constantly—who is ever accessible to His devotees—for the attainment of long life, fulfillment of righteous desires, and material success.

Verse 2

• Prathamam vakratundam cha ekadantam dvitiyakam: First, He is Vakratunda (the Lord with the curved trunk), and second, He is Ekadanta (the single-tusked one).

• Tritiyam krishna-pingaksham gajavaktram chaturthakam: Third, He is Krishna-pingaksha (having dark, brownish-yellow eyes), and fourth, He is Gajavaktra (the one with the elephant face).

Verse 3

• Lambodaram panchamam cha shashtam vikatam eva cha: Fifth, He is Lambodara (the one with a large, graceful belly), and sixth, He is Vikata (the formidable or expansive one).

• Saptamam vighnarajam cha dhumravarnam tathashtakam: Seventh, He is Vighnaraja (the supreme king of obstacles), and eighth, He is Dhumravarna (the one with the smoke-grey complexion).

Verse 4

• Navamam bhalachandram cha dashamam tu vinayakam: Ninth, He is Bhalachandra (the one who wears the crescent moon on His forehead), and tenth, He is Vinayaka (the supreme leader and remover).

• Ekadasham ganapatim dvadasham tu gajananam: Eleventh, He is Ganapati (the lord of all cosmic groups/ganas), and twelfth, He is Gajanana (the elephant-faced absolute).

Verse 5

• Dvadashaitani namani tri-sandhyam yah pathennarah: Whoever reads these twelve sacred names during the three junctures of the day (dawn, noon, and dusk)...

• Na cha vighna-bhayam tasya sarva-siddhi-karam param: ...will never experience fear of obstacles, as this hymn grants the highest fulfillment and success in all endeavors.

Verse 6

• Vidyarthi labhate vidyam dhanarthi labhate dhanam: The student seeking knowledge attains wisdom, and the one seeking wealth attains prosperity.

• Putrarthi labhate putran moksharthi labhate gatim: The one desiring progeny is blessed with descendants, and the one seeking liberation attains the ultimate spiritual state.

Verse 7

• Japet ganapati-stotram shad-masaih phalam labhet: By chanting this Ganapati Stotram with dedication, complete results are harvested within six months.

• Samvatsarena siddhim cha labhate natra samshayah: Within a single year, supreme realization and mastery are attained—of this, there is no doubt.

Verse 8

• Ashtabhyo brahmaneBhyashcha likhitva yah samarpayet: Whoever writes down this stotram and presents/offers copies to eight learned individuals...

• Tasya vidya bhavet sarva ganeshasya prasadatah: ...acquires all wisdom and knowledge by the supreme grace of Lord Ganesha.
