Why Krishna ji is called Makhan Chor : Metaphysical Reason

Every avatar of Lord Vishnu was endowed with the energy (ansh) of a specific planetary force. Lord Krishna embodied the energy of the Moon. Metaphysically, the Moon represents pure consciousness, governing the human mind and all fluid elements—symbolized here by milk.

When milk is boiled and churned continuously, it yields butter, which represents its most refined and purest form. By "stealing" butter, Lord Krishna symbolizes unattached consciousness. He demonstrates that the mind, in its highest state, should remain calm, balanced, and refined—unlike raw milk, which easily agitates and boils over when exposed to heat.

The story of the Makhan Chor teaches us that when our mind is churned by the experiences of life, we can achieve a state of divine consciousness that is detached, peaceful, and focused on its purpose to nourish. We must allow our minds to thicken and rise above their raw, liquid state, realizing that external circumstances do not dictate our inner peace. To maintain tranquility, one must rise above external influences and remain unattached.

This story teaches us that one who eats pure butter daily, remain tranquil within.

This Janmashtami, enlighten yourself with this teaching and understand the deeper reason behind Lord Krishna's calm demeanor through the act of stealing butter.
