Taurus (वृषभ)

Taurus – the second zodiac of the horoscope – is ruled by Venus. Taurus is mainly considered for the accumulation of everything: abundance in family, wealth, health, and knowledge. The Moon, representing divine consciousness, exalts in this sign, while Venus’s rulership shows the pure feminine qualities inherent in Taurus. As Taurus falls in the earthy trine while having an association with watery planets (Moon and Venus), it brings out the nourishing qualities of this sign. No planet debilitates in Taurus, indicating that this sign can only bring growth in every sphere of life. It is the sign of self-realisation, where the urge to earn, accumulate, create, love, and feel begins from Taurus.

The nakshatra of Krittika (Sun) falling in the sign of Venus (its enemy) shows the madness and mental chaos that Taurus can bring. As Sun and Venus are also creative planets, the energy of Taurus helps bring out the artistic qualities of the native. Rohini, the next nakshatra, is of great importance, showing the sustaining positive energy of this sign. Here, the Moon, having lordship over Rohini, is also an enemy of Taurus, again bringing great mental overwhelmingness. The next nakshatra, Mrigashira (Mars), helps in channelling infinite creativity and gives it direction. The bull represents the sign Taurus, with Shiva’s Nandi bull taken into association with this sign. Nandi bull manifests wishes for those desiring children, where the energy of Taurus is also associated with the manifestation of children. The bull’s nature of showing complete disinterestedness with what doesn’t concern it brings out the same attribute for Taurus-ruling people. Only when given a purpose or direction does the energy of Taurus react and act with full creative power.
